Frequently asked questions

What is veterinary social work ?

At LeCornac Consultation, we identify what works for you and collaborate to enhance these positive opportunities.

Veterinary social workers and support professionals have multiple roles and responsibilities.

To name just a few, they assist and support veterinary professionals, students, veterinary school staff, and clients in:

  • Managing workplace stress
  • Improving relationships between clients and veterinary team members
  • Coping with bereavement
  • Decision-making
  • Navigating the human-animal relationship
  • And much more

Our team includes both social workers and support professionals.

In Canada, the title of social worker is reserved exclusively for holders of a social work permit issued by their provincial professional order. The social workers at LeCornac Consultation have completed either first or second-cycle training in social work.

Our social workers and support professionals possess a strong understanding of the veterinary environment, along with specialized training in the veterinary domain, both with members of veterinary teams and their clients.

Our team works with individuals, teams, or groups to identify appropriate interventions and solutions. These solutions are concrete, creative, unbiased, and rooted in social justice, respecting human rights and dignity.

Why veterinary social work ?

Veterinary social work is a specialization of social work at the intersection of the human-animal relationship.

While this field has existed in the United States for some twenty years, it is still in its infancy in Canada. At LeCornac consultation, we are working hard to integrate the principles and professionals of the social field into the Canadian veterinary environment, for the benefit of veterinary team members and their clients.

What is the mandate of our social workers and support professionals ?
  • Ensure the well-being, respect and dignity of all species through interprofessional practice.
Address human needs arising from the human-animal relationship.
    Use evidence-based approaches.
Provide psychosocial support to the veterinary team, addressing the emotional impact of their work, compassion fatigue and burnout.
Foster good communication within work teams, as well as with animal owners.
Are videoconference meetings as effective as face-to-face meetings?

Absolutely.

As with veterinary telemedicine, videoconferencing eliminates geographical barriers and facilitates exchanges. We focus on what really matters, no matter where you’re located.

How does Cornac Consulting give back to the community?

Free or low-cost consultation hours, conferences and/or workshops are offered by leCornac Consultation in collaboration with non-profit organizations across Canada.
